The Event

Last week, HELEN MILLS was home to the Association of Independent Commercial Producers's (AICP) Week 2015 Base Camp, complete with hands-on virtual reality demos, panels featuring industry-leaders and visionaries, and of course ample networking. Panelists included executives and directors from GE, BBDO, Johannes Leonardo, 72andSunny, Facebook, BBH and more. Topics ranged from content development, creative partnerships, consumer marketing and logistical considerations for production.

In the same week, AICP held their Next Awards and AICP Show in NYC, honoring industry leaders in categories ranging from Direction to Animation to Humor to Student Work. For more information and a full list of the winners, see here.

Virtual Reality Immersion

In addition to the impressive speakers as well as talent showcased, the event featured five companies on the vanguard of Virtual Reality (VR) production and technology. Guests were able to explore first-hand the work of industry leaders Framestore, M ss ng P eces, Mirada, Tool of North America, and VRSE.works.

'Walking New York' by VRSE.Works

As part of the VR experience, Virtual reality production company VRSE.works showcased their recent collaboration with the New York Times, a film called 'Walking New York.' Guests were able experience intimate brainstorming sessions with the producers as well as stunning aerial views of the city from the edge of a helicopter seat. If you'd like to experience the project and film on your phone, check it out on Google Play or in iTunes App Store.

Gorkana connects with Re/code at Helen Mills

We were very excited to host Gorkana at Helen Mills this month for an exclusive panel discussion with tech news site Re/code. The event was one in a series of exclusive media briefing events available to Gorkana customers and associated parties. 

The panel was comprised of some of Re/code's editorial team, including editor-in-chief Kenneth Li, managing editor Edmund Lee, and senior editors Jason Del Rey and Arik Hesseldahl. Atlassian 2015 RoadTrip: NYC Stop at Helen Mills

Atlassian was at Helen Mills last week for one of the stops on its muti-national 2015 RoadTrip Tour.  Guests had the opportunity to mingle with product teams, executives, and fellow users for a great night of learning and networking.  Atlassian shared some of its newest product features and demonstrated how these features are helping teams work better together to get more done. Master Class on Beacons & Geolocation Delves into Hot Tech Topics

Application Developers Alliance Event with Gimbal - Tech Event NYC

On November 7, 2014, HELEN MILLS Event Space was home to The NYC Master Class on Beacons and Geolocation, presented by Gimbal, with supporting partner Application Developers Alliance. The day featured a number of speakers discussing the newest technologies and capabilities in the space, including founders and VPs from ShopAdvisor, Verve Mobile, Urban Airship, Spark Compass, and Control Group.

In addition to the talks, the event featured great branding in the form of exterior signage, standing banners, gobos, presentations, and of course swag items to take home.

HELEN MILLS Event Series: July 25th Recap

On July 25th, we had the first event in a series of events at the HELEN MILLS Event Space and Theater. The morning talk explored the state of data privacy. It was a thought-provoking discussion with delicious pastries, intriguing speakers and presentations. Arwa Mahdawi of Contagious (pictured below), moderated the discussion and panel. Arwa is the North American Strategy Director for Contagious and led the quantitative and qualitative research projects on privacy that Contagious recently undertook in conjunction with Flamingo and Opinium. Kyle McDonald is an artist who works with open code. He started off the event by discussing the numerous projects he's worked on includuing one that involved an eavesdropping with a lightbulb that livetweets conversations via Mechanical Turk transcription. Adam Harvey (pictured below, center), is an artist who spoke about his work in developing counter-surveillance designs. His Privacy Gift Shop will be premiering in the fall as part of the NEW INC, a museum led incubator located next door to the New Museum. More about Adam's projects here.

Eliza Esquivel (photo below), VP Global Brand Strategy at Mondelēz International, gave an inspiring talk about Focus: Life Gear by Trident, a project that explores the intersection between fashion, technology, a distraction-free lifestyle, and of course...gum. More about Eliza here.

Dee de Lara, associate director of Flamingo, wrapped up the presentations with her talk about work the agency has done on qualitatively studying privacy, what kind of consumers privacy want, and how brands can deliver it.
